Rain Rain Go Away!

Hey Bloggettes,
Rain rain go away come back another day.....when will it ever stop? the lawn has not had a hair cut for two weeks because it just will not stop and i am running in and out in between showers to dead head the flowers....oh for a glimmer of sun.
In my last post i posted a picture of a secret garden, well unfortunately it is not ours it belongs to a beautiful house called Burton Agnes Hall that we had visited on a rainy day.
Burton Agnes Hall is a Lovely Elizabethan House filled with treasures collected by the family over a period of 400 years and a history going back to Norman times, it is to be found off the A166 road about 35 miles east from York City.

Roger de Stuteville first built his Norman manor house on the site in 1173 this would have been rather austere and gloomy. The hall is thought to be named after Rogers daughter Agnes, and parts including including the original vaulted chamber and the Great Hall still form contrasting features of the current house today.

Sir Henry Griffiths sumptuously decorated new home was constructed at the beginning of the 17th century by the celebrated Robert Smithson a Master Mason to Queen Elizabeth I. The house passed to down to the Boynton family in 1654, and later in 1989 was inherited by Simon Cunliffe-Lister (aged 12 ) and managed for him by his mother Susan, the daughter of Viscount William Whitelaw. The Hall is renowned for it's plasterwork ceilings, skilled wood carvings, Persian carpets and impressionist paintings In all this time the house has never been sold on the open market, only inherited.

A tragic legend that bears telling, is that during the Halls construction, Anne one of Sir Henry Griffiths daughters was attacked by robbers and subsequently died. On her deathbed she told her sisters she would be unable to rest in peace unless they promised to preserve some part of her in the beautiful new Hall that she would never now occupy. Subsequent to her burial in the churchyard, ghostly noises began to disturb her family, so they reluctantly decided to comply with her wishes and her skull was incorporated into the fabric of the house, whence peace returned.

The old walled garden was redeveloped in 1990 as a 'new Elizabethan Garden' with herbaceous borders, the scented garden, herbs and a collection of shrub roses, also giant board games to play in colourful gardens plus a maze.

The little girl in the fountain lives in the walled garden and i just fell in love with her,if you ever get the chance to visit it really is worth it.
I could imagine Atonement being filmed here or some lovely period drama it really has fantastic grounds and water features.
I have tried to upload these pictures about ten times over the week with no success has any one else had trouble uploading?
Have a lovely weekend hopefully with a little sun (fingers crossed)

8 Years Have Passed.....

so quickly and memories and pictures in my head go flickering by like an old black and white movie, they are in no order and no age range just me and you in different costumes speaking different lines but living the same wonderful life.... it was your birthday on thursday and tomorrow its Fathers day...... i gazed at cards you would have liked and it burns me inside knowing that i can no longer write something lovely inside for you to read ...i see other girls choosing cards and i'm jealous,i feel excluded, like i'm an orphan,i feel cold...tears are flowing and still like the day you left my heart is broken,i never believed you would break my heart but you left and it shattered....i guess i just want to say Happy Birthday Daddy and Happy Fathers Day...i miss and love you XxX

Every things coming up roses preview

Click on for a bigger picture....

Hey Bloggettes,

Well girls you all  wanted to take a peek ......so this is so far.
As you can see it is now  joined (by my clever Steve) together and  the painting is well on its way......i plan to paint more roses under the two bottom drawers on the flat panel and on the drawers and doors i will paint something similar to the top and maybe paint a watery dusky rose  around the drawers and doors on the lip...my plan is not to have them all antique white.
The middle also has two shelves which i haven't put back yet...i may just put one back so there is a larger space on the top one for a vase of flowers or a lamp.
Anyhow enough of me babbling hehe.....i hope you have all had a lovely day.
