Pink And The Beach Cottage

I painted a little pine washstand that we had and set it up to take some pictures last Thursday for a blog post before i left for the beach cottage on Friday, thanks to the ugly spotlights where we live at the moment my pictures came out all bright and shadowy as you can see below....i was really disappointed as you all know it takes time to set up,photograph and upload pictures to make a blog post....i didn't publish that post as i didn't want to look unprofessional with a bunch of shadowy pictures.....i told Steve on his return from work i wish i could take pictures of everything in our beach cottage..........

He said well lets put it in the car and take it to the beach cottage, take your pictures and then we will bring it home.....so i did :) he is really great like that and it just feels right to show you pictures of our furniture in our home and not one that belongs to someone else.

I painted her candy pink and chipped her all over for a soft time worn look,Steve will fit a sink and taps in the top and  it will be fitted in our toilet which will be planked walls three quarters of the way up with maybe a little shelf on top.........

She has two towel holders one on either side......
She has lots of curves ..........
and lots of chipped paint..........
Its a shame i didn't take the roses, jug and bowl with me as shown in the shadowy picture below.......oh and i left her at the beach cottage i love that i have something pink there :)
The sun room at the back of our beach cottage is rotten on all three sides but her flat roof is in really good condition and must have been replaced not too long ago.....see the pile of wood to be burned in the background? it keeps growing......the door below is going to be replaced with two plain french style doors and although we would love wood we are too close to the sea so are having white upvc.....

Steve built a new frame inside the sun room making the walls deeper so we can add good insulation to them, this is now fixed to the floor and ceiling beams so the outside walls can be taken down as they are no longer supporting the roof....on the right of the picture below the doors will be as wide as in between the two floor to ceiling beams and to the left you can see one of our six pain mock sash windows that we bought new on Ebay sadly a builder had gone bankrupt and his loss was our gain it saved us a fortune,we will have to cut costs where we can as most of our savings bought our beach cottage for cash but we will get there on our beach budget.....i am just thankful we don't have a mortgage....

at night below when we had finished looking to the left of the room, the two ends of the windows both open out and only the middle is fixed which will give it a real breezy beach look...you can hear the sea in our garden so it will be lovely to fling these open and have drapes blowing in the breeze in  the Summer, that's how i imagine it anyway.....
Looking through the old white room below at the new window,i am going to dry paint antique white over the planks in here and chip it all to age it later on......
Outside you can see the old walls and windows have had their day  and you can see the new windows hung inside........
Inside looking through from the hall we really like the shape and style of the new windows and it feels like  our hard work is starting to come together......
Oh and before i go the sea was just beautiful at the weekend and the sun was shining which i didn't expect for January.......
The End XxX

I loved reading this post...love your story. You should put this post as a link on your sidebar. Your beach cottage is going to be so so perfect. How lucky you are to own it! No payments to make. Your view of the sea is a dream. I too always wanted my Sea Cottage to be near the sea...but I am thankful to have a home and a beach cottage on wheels to camp on the beach in. A cottage like yours would still cost 1 million here in California.

I absolutely loved reading this post. Your beach home is going to be beautiful. It is so rewarding to do the work and enjoy all the improvements. Like you, I lost a sister, while she was still in her prime and I still miss her very much.
I love your pink chippy washstand.
Looking forward to future posts

This is so EXCITING! What a wonderful love story--I am so glad you have found peace with your sister's passing, of course she is still sharing your life in her own way--as you know--

I bought nearly all the windows in my mountain house from resale salvage charity stores, it worked out great, just like yours.

Don't worry about the "shadows" in your photos, they look just fine. They just look like thay were shot in sunlight! Are you cold where you are by the sea? Do you have heat? It must be hard to live in all that construction...

I am loving this blog. What a fantastic advewnture for you both.
I think the washstand looks perfect in pink.
Steve has done a grand job, what a lovely room that will be.

Oh everything is so perfect!! I love the pink washstand, you have such a vision! You and your hubby make a great team, I can tell. I love the sunroom with the bargain windows, how lucky you were able to hunt them down.
